SERIES INFO: THE CHRIST-CENTRED LIFE SERIES (5 WEEKS)
BIG IDEA: “Christ-Centred” – it’s a phrase we love to use. It’s in the vision statement of our church and so it is too in lots of titles of Christian books and articles. But “Christ-Centred” is a lot easier to talk and write about than to live, isn’t it? In the mundane moments of everyday life a lot of other things compete with Christ for centrestage. In the fast paced society, where all we can really ever think about is what we’re going to do next, be it at work or at school, what does it mean to “put God at the center of our lives”? This series aims to help us look at just how should we live a Christ-centred life.
FEB 16 – THE CHRIST-CENTRED LIFE
Speaker: Ps Calvin Lee
Topic: Introduction to Series
Big Idea: Science has changed our thinking in the past that earth is the centre of the universe. Many people still however seem to think that everything revolves around them. This self-centered way of thinking is part of our human nature and it is something we still struggle with as Christians. The same is true for Christianity, our whole world changes when we realize that everything does not revolve around us. What is the Christ-centred life and why do we need to live a Christ-centred life?
FEB 23 – THE CHRIST-CENTRED LIFE
Speaker: Ps Soo Shet Inn
Topic: The Source
Big Idea:A Christ-centered life begins with realizing that the source of everything we are and have is the Lord. He created us, owns us, gifted us with talents, authors our lives and every blessing that we receive comes from Him (Gen 1, Acts 17:26, James 1:17). Additionally, Christ is the source for our daily righteousness. We have no internal desire or moral ability to live up to biblical standards on our own, but in Christ, we have everything we need for godly living (2 Pet 1:3).
MAR 8 – THE CHRIST-CENTRED LIFE
Speaker: Ps Calvin Lee
Topic: The Motive
Big Idea: A Christ-centered life means that Jesus Christ is the motivation for everything we think, say and do. Understanding what God has done for us and who we are in Christ is foundational to having the right motive in living the Christian life, and the right motive is a vital key in the process of transformation. Many of us leave little room for Christ in our Christianity. He only figures when it is to our convenience and when we need Him. Is your Christianity intimate and personal? Do you want to know Christ? (Phil 3:10) Do you want to be part of his work? Do you want to please him? Do you want to incarnate his character? A Christ-centered life is deeply intimate and motivated by relationship.
MAR 15 – THE CHRIST-CENTRED LIFE
Speaker: Ps Nicky Ling
Topic: The Goal
Big Idea: A Christ-centered life has one ultimate goal: to fulfill God’s destiny for our lives and in the process of it ensuring Christ gets the glory. It’s not wrong to pursue personal goals, but the will and glory of Christ is the compass that gives direction to all others. We want Christ to be known, honoured, worshipped and obeyed and so we submit our lives’ goals to Him; being willing to forego any goals that are contrary to His will. Our decisions are no longer controlled by selfish desires, but by new desires that we get from His love for us (2 Cor 5:14-15).
MAR 22 – THE CHRIST-CENTRED LIFE
Speaker: Sis Kar Mun
Topic: The Hope
Big Idea: A Christ-centered life finally puts all our eggs in the basket of the Lord. It is in God or nothing. We know that this life is not all there is, and that an eternity is coming (1 Cor 15:19, Rev 21:4). But a Christ-centered life is more than just a ticket out of hell. We have hope in the here and now, because Christ has promised His presence and grace until we go home.
